Taking Stock
Dear Daddy:
Wasn't that terrible the other week when the guy made up all those lies
about that company and spread them all over the Internet--you know, about how
the company president was resigning and/or being investigated and the company
was falsely said to be losing a lot of money and being in SEC trouble -- and
this was all set up so the stock price would tumble downward and the bad guy
was all set to make a lot of money on the deal -- you remember?
Then, the scam is quickly figured out by the authorities, but a lot of innocent investors trying not to get wiped out had already sold their stock
during the plunge---and when the price went back up to its regular place,
they had lost tremendous amounts of money.
What do you think about this -- and what is your advice for Christian
investors?
On Margin
Dear On:
I think there was a crime, it was solved extremely quickly, and the only
stockholders who really got hurt pretty much deserved it -- by using all their
little cutesy electronic intelligence to monitor everything they got the
jump on everybody -- and rather than try to help their fellow stockholders get
to the bottom of things -- maybe seek justice or even save the company, they
just tried to dump the stock before others found out about it -- who did they
think ought to be ending up holding their bad investment -- you got it figured
out -- anyone but them. Everyone else is a sucker to them.
The reality is, these folks were not investors, they were speculators -- high tech enhanced gamblers -- they got a bit of what they deserved.
Advice for "Christian" Investors? Really act Christian in what you are doing -- think through what you are helping to happen with an investment -- or in getting out of an investment.
A little Golden Rule thinking wouldn't be a bad idea here. Maybe God has
some dividends planned for you that you could never earn on your own. The
real "unearned income," that is never taxed.
