Getting an Electoral College Education

Dear Readers:

Daddy's last column generated quite a bit of response from you. Thank you.

Most of the comments, however, were not about my main point -- which was to show that the idea of focusing on which Presidential candidates one would vote for (in a general election) was rather foolish -- you do that during the primaries. You know, the little elections usually held in the spring that have about 2 percent of the actual adult population voting...

The Presidential choice, in the general election, is about which party, (and all that goes with it) you would choose to rule over you and your family. The actual person that happens to be the nominee is of much less importance. Most of the "campaigning" is obfuscation of this fact. They all want us to feel personal with the candidates.

Now, I got whacked all over by my spiritual-theological-political brethren who are caught up in supporting what is now known as the "Constitution" Party. Because I didn't mention it and Howard Phillips.

I just reread what I said -- and it still applies.

I love hearing Howard speak -- the platform of the Constitution Party is marvelous.

I will have to tell you that I conducted an informal poll around here -- and only about 20 percent of those quizzed had ever even heard of the "Constitution Party." I mean that.

Starting a party by going after the top executive post as basically your first public act... this is pretty bold. I do like boldness.

But, on November 7th of this year, we will all get a college education -- an electoral college education. And unless Jesus returns, or atomic warfare breaks out, the deck is stacked so well against all intruders in the American political system that there will be no real votes for any but the champions of the two big parties. Real electoral votes I mean.

I wish Howard Phillips and people like him would show me and the nation that they mean what they say by running for and getting elected in some of the unopposed judgeships that I always see on my ballot. Can you imagine what 50 Christian activist judges could do? That's only one per state.

Or becoming District Attorneys, or mayors, or maybe one giant push to become governor of a state -- any state -- just one governorship with a Howard Phillips in the mansion. How would what's left of the Republic deal with that?

And none of those positions has an electoral college system keeping a third party and its people out of it even if they do manage to claw their way onto a ballot.

Maybe the ex "Taxpayers" are already doing these things -- I am not privileged to know what they are planning.

I do know that a few years ago, maybe ten, I read one little news article, buried in the back pages of my local newspaper, that told how one of the two controlling parties in Canada (I think it was the better of the two, unfortunately) went, in one election, from a position of relative parity to obliteration in their legislature -- after one election. They were reduced to having 3 or 4 seats, with their opponents having 174 or something.

I bet most of you readers never heard of this -- I have never found anyone else that has any idea what I am talking about. For sure, neither of the parties (or our "media") now in control of America, wants us peasants to get any thoughts of this kind of thing being possible anywhere. I think that Canadian election was sent down the memory hole.

Let me hear from you if you have knowledge of that, O.K.? I need encouragement.

Daddy
