A Bombing in Alabama

A pickup truck registered to Eric Robert Rudolph, was seen near the site of the bombing. A witness reportedly saw a man wearing a wig flee the area after the explosion and hop into the pickup truck. Four days later, dozens of federal agents searched the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina for Rudolph, telling the press they believed he could help them locate the bomber of an abortion clinic. The man being sought, was wanted as a witness and not as a suspect, they said.

By the end of February 1998 however Rudolph's status changed from a "material witness" in the case to the "main suspect." The FBI solicited the help of the television program "America's Most Wanted," hundreds of volunteer searchers and offered a $1 million reward in their effort to find Rudolph in the rugged North Carolina mountains.

More than five years after the search began, Rudolph was arrested May 31, 2003 while pilfering through a dumpster behind a grocery store in Murphy, North Carolina by a sheriff's deputy on routine patrol.
