Back Door Deal With the Pope

Bush Snubs Evangelical Christians Again

Letter to the Editor of Covenant News,

I am very disappointed with George Bush's nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. Did our President secretly make a back door deal with the pope when he met with him in the Vatican before the 2004 election? Did he promise that he would appoint only Roman Catholics to the High Court - in order to get the Vatican's behind-the-scenes support for his re-election?

While the media endlessly preaches that Evangelical Christians are the ones "responsible" for the election of George Bush to the Presidency, isn't it high time that we DEMAND that an Evangelical Christian who is a Constitutional Constructionist be placed on the Highest Court of the land? What about religious diversity? We already have how many Roman Catholics on the Supreme Court? Samuel Alito will be the 5th to sit on the High Court.

Allegiance to the pope, his Vatican and its teachings is in direct violation with the U.S. Constitution. Official Roman Catholic Doctrine states that the pope has Temporal Power - total and unquestionable authority over every government and nation in the world. This belief is one of the two pillars of the Roman Catholic Church's false claim to world-wide political and religious authority - the other being Apostolic Succession. Do we want Supreme Court Justices who believe in the pope's Temporal Power? Any judge who does is a direct threat to the U.S. Constitution and our national sovereignty.

Why are we Christians so naive? Why do we always end up doing the dirty work to get Roman Catholics into high office when they represent only 22% of the U.S. population? Isn't their allegiance to a foreign king - the pope of Vatican City - a concern to those who don't want foreign intervention or international law used to decide our court proceedings? It is for me!

I could go on and on. Wake up Believers! Aren't we all tired of being thrown the crumbs from the Republican Establishment's table? Judge Alito and President Bush are no friends to the Body of Christ! Isn't it time we form a Christian/Protestant political party that will work to elect only Bible-believing, Constitutionalists? When that party is formed, I'll be the first to join!
