Braves' 'Gay Day'
To the Editor:
Thank you for your great webpage and your efforts to alert Christians to the horrors of sin that plague our nation. As a co-minister with you in an issues oriented ministry in the Atlanta area, I want to focus your attention on what I believe is a true American tragedy.
I am a baseball fan and love "America's Team," the Atlanta Braves. I am disheartened and disgusted to learn that they are sponsoring a "Gay Day" this Wednesday, August 8th. The Atlanta Braves are helping the homosexual community in their efforts to bring the International Gay Olympics to Atlanta. Can you say, "550 million dollars!" Who cares about sin when $550 dollars is at stake?! This is what is happening here. It's the money stupid!
We cannot afford to let these type events go unchallenged and accepted as normal fare. Now, the Braves can do whatever they please. But, baseball is one of the American institutions and it should have nothing to do with homosexuality. What does homosexuality have to do with baseball? Nothing.
Unfortunately, the church has pretty much quit fighting the homosexual agenda. Christians generally ignore it unless it affects them personally. This is wrong. Scripture tells us to expose evil (Eph. 5:11). We must be willing to do that.
I don't think that people understand how much a watershed issue homosexuality really is. Once we, as a culture, accept homosexuality there is no argument for forbidding pedophilia, beastiality, or anything else. We have to close the door on this and all perversion.
Although time is short, I would encourage all to let their feelings be known to the Atlanta Braves. Their spokesman can be contacted at jim.schultz@turner.com.
The Brave's Atlanta telephone number is 404-522-7630.
Again, Thanks for your work in the Kingdom.
Yours for a Godly nation,

Perplexing Situation
To the Editor:
Dear Mr. Leonard, this morning I read your letter to the editor of Covenant News.
I was appalled that a professing pro-life Christian could take such an irresponsible position as you have. It is particularly embarrassing to see that you are writing from a PCA church that holds to the Westminster Confession. What part of "taking dominion" don't you understand? I am writing my response after your own comments for clarity:
"It is very distressing to read a headline in your online news Ashcroft Protects Murderers which basically condemns a public official for providing protection to people who are threatened with bodily harm. It matters not that they are killing unborn children (yes, I am as opposed to abortion as you are). Right now, in our country, it is legal."
And it was legal to kill Jews in Germany and blacks prior to the Civil War as well. So if it is legal, everyone should just "shut up and obey"? What in the world is wrong with you? On top of that why is it the job of the Federal Government to send US Marshals to protect baby-killers? Isn't that the job of the local government? And if they can't handle the task, it's an incentive for the abortuary to go away, or to spend their own money to protect their murderous activities, instead of using our tax dollars to do it. It is blatantly unconstitutional for the Federal Government to extract money from every citizen on a national level to protect something that is morally objectionable to most of them. Wake up, sir. Yours is the very attitude that PERPETUATES these evils.
"Therefore, those doing it are protected under the law and John Ashcroft is obligated to ensure their protection especially from people, who in the name of whatever god they have chosen to follow (certainly not the one true GOD), are willing to take someone else s life."
NO, NO, NO!!! As a Christian, John Ashcroft is OBLIGATED to apply his moral standard and his faith to his position in public office!! In generations past we called such men "men of character" and "heroes". Men that would USE the position God put them in to RESIST EVIL and effect change. Using an excuse that he is bound by the "current law" is COWARDICE! Besides, there is no law requiring the Federal Government to use its resources to protect child-killing. You sound exactly like the pro-aborts, sir. You have bought into their every argument.
"You, in writing as you do, do not help the cause of overturning Roe v Wade and in my humble opinion just help to push us further toward a division in this country that will never bring a satisfactory solution to the awful massacre of our children. You would do much better to call people to PRAYER that is the only thing that will bring the change that is needed."
Tell that to our Founding Fathers, sir. George III intitially referred to the Revolution as "The Presbyterian Parsons' Rebellion." Why? Because they filled over 75 percent of America's pulpits and each week spoke out from those pulpits in rebellion against the godless oppression of the British. They stirred people to ACTION. They did not claim that "the only thing that will rid us of this tyranny is prayer". They put shoe leather to their faith, as all the truly faithful do.
James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Your philosophy is a shameful cancer in the Body of Christ, sir. It is an embarassment to the Great Cloud of Witnesses that have gone before us. It is lukewarm. It is worse than lukewarm, because you actually attack anyone who actually DOES anything that might bring about change in the name Jesus.
You are an embarrassment. I pray you repent and ask God's forgiveness for your cowardice and lukewarmness and opposition to Godly men who are trying to effect change, take dominion and "occupy til He comes", and offer your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable so that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God" (Romans 12:1)
