A Sense of Urgency

Recently I received a political advertisement in the mail from one of those Special Interest groups, which is not that unusual since this is an election year. The thing I found interesting, well, shocking would be a better description, is that this advertisement was informing me that a certain U.S. Congressman is a "pro-life stalwart." This would mean he is uncompromising in his pro-life stand and they wanted Christians to vote for him.

Being a Christian minister here in Washington, D.C., the reason I was so shocked by this advertisement is because in all the years that I have been here I have seen nothing to indicate that this Congressman is "pro-life."

The first thing that came to mind was the old propaganda PR axiom, "If you repeat a lie often enough, people will start believing it." I started to throw the piece of junk mail into the trash - and then it dawned on me that there are probably a whole lot of people out there who do not know what it really means to be pro-life.

It is actually very simple. Jesus said, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matt.22:39). Therefore, to be pro-life means that you love the babies in the womb like yourself.

But in order to demonstrate affection for them you first have to relate to what your little 'neighbor' is going through.

Imagine now that you have been conceived in the womb three months after the next President is elected to office, and it's been decided that you are unwanted. You are doomed to be put to death by abortion.

What must a Pro-Life Congressman do to save my life?

Remember, you are about to be torn to pieces from your mother's womb by abortion. What must a Pro-Life Congressman do to protect you from being murdered?

If he is truly a Pro-Life Congressman he will pass legislation instructing the Supreme Court to give back what it illegally denies you: your "Inalienable Rights," your "due process and equal protection of the law."

So the next time you receive in the mail a political advertisement or Voter Guide from one of those Special Interest groups touting your Congressman to be pro-life, just remember that Special Interest groups have a vested interest in mailing out those political endorsements.

The best thing to do is when you see a Voter Guide touting a Congressman as being pro-life, just quickly imagine yourself in the womb again, and then ask yourself, "Is my Congressman passing a law that will give me back my Inalienable Rights? Is my Congressman really exhibiting the sense of urgency as if he is the one doomed to be murdered by abortion?"

Are the Congressmen who hold the power to make abortion illegal loving our little neighbors like they love themselves? We have all seen how fast Congress can pass laws when they want to.

I know this for a fact, in the eyes of the children who will be murdered by abortion in the morning, none of our Congressmen are "pro-life."

Jesus said, "Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me." (Matt.25:45).

If you are honest with yourself about the legal protection these children need, if you place yourself in their doomed circumstances, then you will understand just how meaningless it is for our Congressmen to be regulating abortion procedures instead of establishing equal protection under the law for the child in the womb from the moment of conception.
